HOUSES IN ASTROLOGY

A birth chart is drawn as a 360-degree wheel that’s divided into twelve sections, or ‘houses’.  At the exact time of your birth, each planet and constellation in the zodiac was located inside a specific house or section of the wheel of your birth chart.

Knowing these placements can give you more insight into the ways astrology influences key parts of your life, like your health, career, or relationships.

The twelve houses in astrology represent various aspects of human experience and consciousness, each corresponding to different areas of life.

From a depth psychological perspective, which often draws on the works of Carl Jung and other psychological theorists, the significance of the houses relates to your natural responses to these different areas of life.

If you refer to the ‘Life as Theater’ article posted previously, you will recall the analogy of your birth chart seen as a play – the play is your life, unfolding.

The actors are the planets represented in your chart, both at the time of your birth and also their impact as they make their transits through the skies.

The zodiac signs and their archetypal influences are the roles planetary personalities are playing.

And the houses are the scenarios and situations in which the cast plays its role.

The next twelve posts will explore the meaning and nuances of each of these twelve houses.
